Born About 1805. Christened, 3 Oct 1805 in Harberton, Devon, UK. Died 1886 in Tamworth, NSW, Australia.

He married Jane Burgess SAUNDERS, 8 Dec 1831 in Harberton, Devon, UK. Daughter of George Saunders and Ann Jones. d. 1856 in Port Stevens, NSW, Australia.

George (i) a Bachelor and Jane a Spinster.

Witnesses to marriage - John PERRING (ii) and Susanna FINCH.

They had the following children:

The 1841 census records the family as living at Rowles Cottage and  George PERRING (i) occupation as Woollen M. Possibly the M stands for Manufacturer or Miller.

George PERRING (i) aged 35 years.
Jane PERRING nee Burgess SAUNDERS aged 30 years.
John PERRING (i)(a) aged 8 years.
Mary Jane PERRING (i)(a) aged  2 years.
Elizabeth Perring (i)(a) aged 2 mths.

Contracted with 19 other local Devon shepherds, to the Australian Agricultural Company, to migrate to Australia and work on the company properties, first at Gloucester then onto Goonoo Goonoo.

Left for Australia about 1842.

Sailed from Plymouth on the H.M.S. London with wife Jane , one son John (i)(a) and two daughters, Elizabeth (i)(a)  and Mary (i)(a). John (i)(a) was 9 years of age, Mary (i)(a) was 3 years, Elizabeth (i)(a) was 8 months.

H.M.S. London left England on the 18th December 1841, arriving Port Stephens 14th March 1842.

George (i) was supplied accommodation and a salary of £25.0.0 per year as part of his contract.

The publication 'Pure Merinos And Others: The "Shipping Lists" of The Australian Agricultural Company' by P A Pemberton there are a few pages devoted to 'The Emigration Scheme" . Among the passengers listed there is a mention of a George Perring, a shepherd with a wife, son and two daughters arriving on the London in 1842.

He died in Tamworth, on the New England tablelands aged 81 in 1886.

The first Perring family sailed from Devonshire, England and landed at Port Stevens in 1842. John Perring (i)(a), a son of their family, married Mary Donohue from Ireland  in 1853 in the Roman Catholic church in East Maitland, NSW, Australia, the daughter of Philip Donohue and Ann (unknown). Mary Donohue died 1920 in Grafton, NSW, Australia.

John Perring (i)(a) and  Mary Donohue had the following children.

Sarah Catherine Perring (i)(a). b. 1864 in Tamworth, NSW, Australia. d. 17 September 1948 in South Grafton, NSW, Australia. Buried in South Grafton Cemetery, NSW, Australia. 

She married Andrew George Giles St Clair Ellem, 26 October 1886 in Seelands, NSW, Australia. d. 3 May 1936 in South Grafton, NSW, Australia. Buried in South Grafton Cemetery, NSW, Australia. 

Anne Perring (i)(a). b. 1867 in Tamworth, NSW, Australia. 

She married Edward Chapman, 25 March 1889 in Grafton, NSW, Australia.

James Edward Perring (i)(a). b. 1879 in Grafton, NSW, Australia.

He married Gladys Vera Bender, 1944 in Grafton, NSW, Australia.

With a young family, left Port Stevens for Goomoo Goomoo Station near Tamworth in 1859 by bullock team. Leaving Tamworth in 1870, John Perring (i)(a) and his family came to South Grafton and settled at Seelands. Later on John (i)(a) purchased more land in the area, consisting of a large circular vineyard.

Mary Perring nee Donohue wife of John (i)(a).

George Perring (i)(a), John (i)(a)’s son, married Mary Cameron and they raised 6 sons from their union, John Alexander Perring (i)(a), Albert William Perring (i)(a), Richard Perring(ii)(a), Donald H Perring (i)(a), George Alfred Perring (i)(a) and Irwin C Perring (i)(a), 3 of whom farmed the land at Seelands until the 1960s. Mrs. Gladys Perring, wife of ames Edward Perring (i)(a) who was a brother to George Perring (i)(a) still lives on the original property.
