I was very very fortunate to be involved with both the Opening & Closing Ceremonies. In July, I was selected as an Athlete's Escort for Switzerland which meant, for the Opening Ceremony, I would accompany the athletes on their 'Round of Honour' in the Stadium.
Following many days of rehearsals involving hours upon hours of waiting, standing in one spot and marching, the 15th of September finally came for my BIG moment.
Below are some of the pictures (apologies for the bad quality!):
The feelings and emotions that went through my body on that evening were awe-inspiring. It felt like I was on a different planet looking down at this massive event that was taken place right around me. Time passed so quickly walking around the track - I waved a little but most of all I just wanted to savour the moment. The music, the athletes, the audience - at times it was just too much!!
The pinnacle of the moment was, of course, the lighting of the cauldron by Cathy Freeman. Even though there was a little technical "slip up", I did not really notice as I was looking around and sharing this event with the world.
