CITATION

Lynette Russell - Barrenjoey High School

Lynette Russell is a dedicated and committed supporter of NSW public education and the partnerships necessary between parents and teachers to ensure an optimum learning environment.

Barrenjoey High School is a fully comprehensive public high school which reflects the values and aspirations of the community it serves.  The school community is grateful to the vision, energy and sense of quality Lynette Russell has shown in improving the educational opportunities available to the students.  Through her leadership there is an exemplary transition programme for year 6 students to move to year 7,  a student mentoring programme, an interactive open night which showcases the school, student leadership opportunities and the year 7 & 8 enrichment programme.

Lynette Russell is aware of the importance of parent support within the school and has developed ceremonies, performances and dinners to include as many parents as possible to share in their child’s educational experience.   She has always been supportive of parents who wish to contribute positively to the school which has seen the reinstatement of a very successful rugby programme, the Pathways programme for year 10 girls & boys, support for a mural project organised by parent artists and a real partnership with parents keen to improve the environment of the school and initiate sustainable school projects.

Lynette Russell has promoted the school to the wider community and has supported parents in activities to achieve this.  The Barrenjoey Arts Festival not only promotes the work of students within the school, but the work of the Pittwater community.  Lynette Russell has also supported parents in their applications for various government grants which has seen the injection of much needed funds to major school projects.  Lynette Russell works tirelessly in providing articles and photographs to local newspapers to highlight Barrenjoey successes to the community.

Under her leadership Barrenjoey High School has developed into a thriving, dynamic and energetic learning environment which provides opportunities for personal growth to the students, staff and parents.  This development would not have been possible without the support, energy and commitment of parents and Lynette Russell has ensured the school community is aware and recognises the value of this partnership.

Lynette Russell is a worthy recipient of this award.
