ME-PBM 2950 Nation DescriptionKhand Easterlings (#25)
The nation of the Khand Easterlings refers to the collection of peoples who occupy the south central region of Middle-earth. This region encompasses the lands south of Rhûn, and all the lands south to Khand. This diverse nation includes the tribes of the Igath, Nuriags, and the Variags, and is loosely led by Ovatha IV. The Khand Easterlings represent a nation with great potential but numerous pitfalls to overcome. The greatest strength of the Khand Easterlings lies in their fierce and brave warriors, especially their much-feared cavalry. Competent commanders and numerous warriors make this mobile threat very real indeed. These savage troops move very fast and can patrol and protect the diverse holdings the Khand Easterlings control. The quality of competition among potential Commanders allows new Khand Easterling Commanders to begin with a Command rank of up to 40. Furthermore, because of the rich martial traditions of the indigenous peoples, Khand Easterling troops without food will still gain 1-2 Morale points when stationary and will only lose 1-2 Morale points when traveling. Furthermore, Khand Easterling troops only lose 1-2 Morale points for a Forced March (2-5 points without food). Additionally, the rugged nature of their wild lands results in many Khand Easterling characters having a chance of possessing greater Challenge ranks. This often makes them more deadly than appearances would indicate. Their skilled Mages and adequate Emissaries try to make up for their lack of skilled Agents. Furthermore, the long-standing martial and nomadic traditions of the Khand Easterlings results in quality warriors, but little of anything else. Additionally, the abundant availability of resources provides the Khand Easterlings with a rich base for growth. The prudent use of those resources allows for greater expansion and acquisition of more skilled Emissaries and Agents. The most difficult barriers to be overcome in the Khand Easterling's plans of conquest are the lack of a strong command and the dispersal of their forces over much of central Middle-earth. Furthermore, numerous potential enemies border the Khand Easterling's realm. To the north are the Northmen, the Cloud Lord, the Blind Sorcerer, and the Long Rider, while to the west is the Quiet Avenger. And the neutral Rhûn Easterlings, along with the Corsairs, could present immediate or future difficulties. For these reasons, the decision to choose allegiance must be carefully considered. A choice made too early could cost the Khand Easterlings much of their realm.
