Elrond Challenge from Saruman the White at 2209

In the Hills & Rough of 2209 a ritual duel began. A large circle was drawn on the paving stones near the market. As the residents of Imladris gathered around, Saruman the White, a healthy maiar spirit stepped forth and called challenge. In his hands was borne the glowing Sword called Gurthang. In answer, Elrond, a healthy robed mage stepped forth. In his hands was borne the glowing Sword called Helkaluin. Those watching calculated the odds at roughly even. The fight began in earnest. Bystanders gasped as the mages called upon powers ancient and powerful. Tendrils of light and darkness clashed in individual duels of power. Finally, Elrond relinquished his spirit and gasped his last. Saruman the White was noted to have suffered minor wounds in the fight.

Report from Gothmog.....My commanders moved among the troops before battle, readying them, bolstering their resolve, and issuing last minute orders. The troops howled their readiness and it was difficult to restrain the front lines from striking before the attack order was given. Finally the order was heard coursing through the ranks.. Keep close ranks. Use standard formation. Like we practiced! As our troops deployed, a cheer went up as balls of cold amber light burst among the enemy, and they realized that the mages had already started the battle. The men cheered as boulders and flying debris were hurled upon the enemy troops. Against the forces of Théoden, it was a classic attack - our standard formation against theirs. Against the forces of Aragorn II, it was a classic attack - our standard formation against theirs.

After the battle had joined in earnest, heroes made their presence known all over the battlefield. Théoden fought side by side with the troops and diverted many a blade during the pitched battle with his glowing Sword. Éowyn rode into the enemy ranks with her glowing Sword and cut down a score of foes before they knew what had happened. Treebeard Ents walked majestically through the fearful ranks of their enemies, bringing death and fear to those that attempted to thwart their progress! Aragorn II fought side by side with the troops and diverted many a blade during the pitched battle with his glowing Sword. Elladan fought side by side with the troops and diverted many a blade during the pitched battle with his glowing Sword. Elrohir fought side by side with the troops and diverted many a blade during the pitched battle with his glowing Sword. Buck Hill Hobbits seemed to appear like magic at just the wrong times for their enemies. Cries of pain and bewilderment from the opposing troops began to be heard all over the battlefield! Tawar Woses circled the battlefield, picking off those of the enemy which they could hit with their deadly blowpipes! Troops began to fall without ever seeing the danger! Gothmog burst forth with a blood curdling yell and rushed to meet whatever foes would face his glowing Flail. Mûrazôr stood off to one side making magical gestures and incanting arcane words. Suddenly, a storm of fire engulfed portions of the enemy line, leaving only burnt ashes in its path! Hoarmûrath stood off to one side making magical gestures and incanting arcane words. Suddenly, many of his comrades felt their armor grow tougher and more resistant to the blows of their enemies. Pack of Mumakíl were used by the troops to bring horror and fear to their enemies as the battle crazed animals stampeded through the opposition bringing death to those in their way!

Report from Gothmog.....Our archers let loose an initial volley that soared unhindered into the enemy lines. Our cavalry rode swiftly across the shore and thundered into the enemy, killing many. Our foot soldiers engaged the other troops in the open and took the battle to them. The troops fought heroically, and I was proud to lead them. They fought with passion! Although the enemy fought hard, we finally succeeded in overwhelming them after a long battle.
