Salsa Music School in Sydney
Cost of all our courses is $250 for the 10 week block, payable by cash or check
on the first day of class. Sorry we do not have credit card facilities.
Some class times are yet to be finalized but will be either on a Monday, Tuesday
or Saturday.
Son 101 - Now in its third year
A 10 week course that will teach you play Cuban Salsa. This is tuition, short
of a trip to Cuba, you just can't get anywhere else!
In this course, you will be in a group of about 10 people. Some of whom are instrumentalists and some perhaps who have never played an instrument before. Together, you will learn to play ALL the rhythms and instruments of Cuban music through singing, dancing and actual instruction on the instrument concerned.
The group then moves on to form a "band" and develops a repertoire of 3 - 4 songs for final performance. This course is not just an "introduction", it has real performance outcomes and as such, requires commitment and practice on the part of the student. The rewards however are excellent. Former graduates are out there performing in public and this is the aim of the course.
The style covered by this course is the "son"- the traditional roots of Salsa, plus some easy to play variations such as Cha Cha Cha and Guaracha.
No audition or prior experience is required for this course.

Rumba 101
Our new course for 2006 is a traditional drum and vocal based ensemble to
teach you all about the Rumba clave and the music it gave rise to - the
Guaguanco and the Songo. This course will unlock the secrets of contemporary
Salsa and Timba that you hear from bands such as Los Van Van, Bamboleo and NG la
Banda as well as giving you a chance to perform "unplugged".
This course is currently running on Saturday @ 1pm. If you have not completed "Son 101", you will need to audition to do this course.

Latin 201
This is the advanced band based course available to graduates only. It is
aimed at graduates who want to seriously make, join or free lance with Salsa
bands. In this course we will make a large band with vocalists and horns that
will learn and perform all styles of Latin music.
In this course we will develop a significant amount of material to a professional standard and hence requires a serious commitment. A feature of this course is that you will get to meet, rehearse and perform with local professional salsa artists!
Currently we are running 2 intakes of this course on Monday and Tuesday. There may even be a third intake on Saturday @ 1pm in place of the Jazz session.
