Perhaps the single most impressionable reason why I am so interested in anime is that it holds absolutely no bounds on creativity and the imagination.
Anime spans just about every genre that has been devised - comedy, romance, tragedy, epic adventure, historic, war/combat, sci-fi, philosphical, futuristic, every-day life, (ahem*) adult - and some which are unique to anime only, such as shoujo, shonen, and mecha anime.
So if you get interested in anime, there is ample opportunity to broaden your mind and see the widest scope of the human mind.
But enough of the high and mighty ideals - anime is also fun 'cause it's just plain entertaining, and you can watch it for hours and hours and never get bored.
Of course with such freedom, there's plenty of bad stuff out there (and I mean really bad) - but then it's all a matter of your personal perspective.
I started reading fanfiction because it seemed to be the only way that one could explore the alternatives to what the orignal artist/writer's had set for their original universes. In all honesty, I'd say most of the stuff that gets put out there isn't worth the kilobyte space that it takes up on your hard drive (you would probably never even see it on the net) - but that small percentage of really good stuff out there really makes it all worthwhile. Fanfiction is the way to go if you're really into the questions of 'what if?' and 'what next?' To often the audience get left hanging by an unfulfilling ending to an anime series, or huge realm of territory left unexplored.
I started writing fanfiction a couple years after reading other people's writing. Why? Cause I noticed that after a while of reading other stories I was always saying to myself - "Now if I was writing this story, I would have done this and this...." etc.
So the time came to put up or shut up, and actually see what would happen if I was behind the helm doing the dirty work. I promised myself that I would at least give it one try to see if my own ideas were worth any reader's interest - and I'll tell you one thing, reading it is a lot easier than writing it. But for all those who have given me the encouragement to keep on at it, and to all potential new readers, I hope I've fulfilled that promise and will contnue to do so in the future.
Thanks for all your support - I really do appreciate it.
