Evidence of the Existence of Aliens?

{insert page Index here (if any)}

One may ask if there are indeed intelligent aliens out there, how come there is no evidence of their existence? Years of systematic searches (which is still continuing) under the Search for Extra-Territestrial Intelligence (SETI) project have failed to find a single positive prove of intelligence out there.

Human Ignorance

It is submitted that the evidence is out there, only that we are not aware of it: for all we know the sky is full of "signals" or evidence signifying the existence of intelligent beings but that we simply do not recognise it as such. Before human kind discovered the wonderful world of radio waves (or electromagnetic radiation) as a mean of communication, the presence of such signals is unknown even though that such radiation is all around us. The point is that who is to say for sure that electromagnetic radiation is the only mean of communication available to a technologically advance intelligence out there. To be realistic is electromagnetic radiation a sensible mean to communicate in a universe where the distance between stars are so great that it could take signal decades or even centuries to traverse? In this regard, the apparent failure of the SETI project so far is explicable. And indeed, such a venture may even be a bit waste of time. But then it does not hurt to look!

Non-Interference Policy?

At the same time it is conceivable that an advance space faring society may not want to interfere (ie. like the Star Trek non-interference policy, the Prime Directive) with the development of an essentially primitive society on Earth. Along the same line, even if they are here we may not have the ability to detect them where they choose not to be identified. For instance, as in Star Trek, they may possess some sort of "shielding" technology or "cloaking device" to foil our primitive sensors. They may even be walking among us and we still would not notice them because they could be disguise by cosmetic surgery or hidden by some sort of holographic force field projection. Some such ideas may border on the far-fetched, if not impossible, according to our current understanding of science, but to a technologically advance being out there (one that have the capabilities to come from tens or even hundreds of light years away) it may not be impossible.

Conspiracy?

Alternatively, the evidence may exist but we, the public, are simply denied access to it by the BIG GOVERNMENT on earth. Reports of UFOs sighting and close encounter have been occurring around the Earth over the years. Undoubtedly, some alleged sightings are fake, but there are many that cannot be categorically dismissed. On balance I tend to belief in the existence of UFOs.

If UFOs is real, then why is government denying them? Is there a conspiracy to keep this a secret? But why keep it a secret? Some possibilities are:

(i) The government(s) concern want to keep it a secret so as not to disrupt human society, which may be too fragile to risk exposure to the news that aliens exist and are routinely visiting the Earth. Imagine what would happen to the religions- which is a very important aspect of our society- on Earth if the existence of aliens are confirmed;

(ii) Government(s) may have in their possession aliens technology, which they want to reverse engineer so as to gain an advance technological edge over rival nations. This gives them military advantage and hence power, dominance and influence. Such technology could be in the form of crashed landed spacecraft. A former scientist who worked on the US government's most highly classified projects, Galileo, claimed that the US is in possession of at least 9 such crafts). See Majestic-12 Scientist Goes Public.

(iii) In addition to the military advantages that such technologies could bring, government(s) could have incentive to keep alien’s technologies secret to protect the economy- an important backbone of modern society, For example, revelation of technologies that can produce unlimited amount of energy would wipe out the oil industry overnight. Given the importance of this industry, the whole economy would collapse. Social crisis would arise. Political infrastructure similarly would crumple.
