Given the current trend in the advancement of computing power, the computer seen on Star Trek is surely within our reach soon (ie. much sooner than the 24th Century). Advancement of our computer technology is being propelled by recent development in nanotechnology, biological & optical components. Further, significant progress has also been made in quantum computing.
Com Badge |
The present progress in telecommunication technology suggest that we may have some form of com badge like device within 20-30 years. |
Deflector Shields and Cloaking Device |
Inconclusive due to lack of understanding. |
Holographic Devices |
As with the transporter and replicator the holodeck as seen in Star Trek will never become a reality. Although devices serving similar function is likely to be available. |
Sensors and Tricorders |
Most of the sensors seen in Star Trek will on day become a reality. |
Transporter and Replicator |
The Transporter and replicator may be a wonderful and highly convenient device, but given our current understanding such devices will never be possible. |
Universal Language Translator |
It is not conceivable that a universal language translator, as used in Star Trek, can ever be constructed. |
YES, there are life (aliens) out there. In the absence of conclusive evidence to the contrary it is naive and too closed minded to say otherwise.
Alternate Reality/ Universe, Black Hole, Gravity (including artificial gravity and inertia control), Subspace, Tachyon, Time Travel, Wormhole. These space-time phenomenon are all made up of frequently in Star Trek.
More often than not these all have scientific basis. While these are within
the realm of possibility (ie. not impossible), they border on the unlikely..
At the moment we cannot do this. But then our knowledge of gravity and inertia is far too inadequate to say whether this is possible. In the absence of better understanding (particularly on my part) a guess as to their viability is not possible.
Cloning, Genetic Analysis, Genetic Engineering, Memory- Erasing, Reversing the Aging Process
Faster than light travel is a theoretical possibility under general relativity. Even if FTL travel is unachievable a person could still traverse the universe within his or her lifetime.
Both nuclear fusion and matter and anti-matter reaction is not within out present technical capability. Though strong progress is being made in both field.
