Step 1: Have a close look at this line which represents life achievements of Andrew Barton Paterson -
the author of the lyrics for Walzing Matilda:

Step 2: Choose a famous writer or poet from your country and search for their biography using a search engine.
Make notes of some most important dates and events in his/her life (no more than eight).

Step 3: Using Drawing Tools create a timeline for your chosen writer/poet from a wordprocessor on your PC.
Instructions for Microsoft Word:

a) open Microsoft Word
b) change Page Setup to landscape: File>Page Setup>Paper Size>Landscape
c) to view the Drawing Toolbar: View> Toolbars> Drawing (it usually appears at the bottom of the screen)

 


d) draw a line: Find "line". Click and click/drag a horizontal line across the page.
e) draw a little circle: find "Oval". Click on it and then on the page. It will be quite big. Drag it inwards by its corner to reduce the size.
f) colour it in: click on the oval and then on "Fill Colour". Choose any colour you like.
g) make more circles: copy the coloured oval as many times as the number of dates you need: Click on the oval and then Edit/Copy and Edit/ Paste.Move the circles to their position on the line.
h) draw a box for a date: find a textbox, click on it and then click on the page. Resize the textbox by dragging the sides.
i) make more boxes: click on the box and then Edit/Copy and Edit /Paste. Drag the boxes to their positions over the line.
j) make boxes for the rest of the events in a similar fashion.
