"Light A Penny Candle by Maeve binchy is a novel about friendship. In 1940 at the height of World War II, shy ten-year-old Elizabeth is sent to stay in Ireland with the family of her mother's childhood friend, Eileen O'connor. Here she meets and is immediately befriended by boisterous Aisling, the same age as herself. In the novel we follow the next twenty years of their lives as they have to deal with many of life's problems: family bereavements, falling in love, and marital breakdown.
for me though, in terms of its characters, dialogue, and conclusion, not as enjoyable a read as Binchy's "Circle Of Friends".
