Using the OptusNet Australian Cable Internet with the
Os/2 and now eCS/MCP Operating Systems. (ie Warp 4.5)..
  http://members.optusnet.com.au/rtraynor/index.html

Humorous and handsome Picture which has absolutely NOTHING to do with the topic of this page.:-

{Note: I have since converted from fixed IP addressing as detailed here
to using DHCP and most of the info here is now no longer needed.
Eventually I will get around to updating this page.}

Here is all the required CDrecord/2 files in one zip file.
There will have been updates since, but this is a good starting point.

-----------------------------------------------------
I have configured my Os/2 Warp3 and Os/2 Warp4 and later, eCS 1.0 to access the
Australian OptusNet Cable Internet (www.optusnet.com.au).

All is well and working ok although I am no longer using Warp3 or Warp4 of course.

OptusNet only officially supports Win9x and Apple Mac but since the hardware components are well
known and of a known standard, the service can be used with other REAL operating systems as well.

Both of the the url's below and others are available from :-
http://www.gt-online.com/~bri/help.html
Unfortunately this page has not been updated in a LONG while, and a few url's no longer active. :-(

A good web site for Os/2 Cable modem configuration WAS:-
Cable Modem Setup and Everything for OS/2
http://members.xoom.com/Warped/every/faqs/cablemodem.html
Unfortunately this page is no longer available.!  BUT I have a COPY of the above pages here <***

And neither is this page, either. Now Dead.!  as of 3 August 2002..!
If you have an existing network as well as the cable modem (requires 2 network cards) :-
Cable Modems & OS/2
http://www.idk-inc.com/cablemodem.htm
I have found that the above link no longer refers to setting up cable modems and is a place holder page only.
The Author of the page (IDK, Inc. Home Page) asks that if enough interest is generated, then the Author
may rewrite the page.
If you are interested, then please email the Author as he requests, on that page.!
ie.   Write to request that page be updated  at www.idk-inc.com.!

MY Configuration for fixed IP address with Cable modem.

Here is an explained version of MY os2 Tcp/ip 4.1 (and LATER including eCS)
SETUP.CMD file, for OptusNet access here in Australia.
Left click on the above link and save it to your hard drive.

Copy it into :\MPTN\BIN after backing up your previous file if it exists.

It DOES require editing and the removal of the first 6 explanatory lines.
MY SETUP.CMD file does _NOT_ work with standard out of the box Warp4, or Warp3, tcp/ip level.
Only TCP/IP 4.1 and LATER including eCS.

Also, for either standard out of the box tcp/ip or for tcp/ip 4.1 and higher, add to your
config.sys the following entry:-
SET HOSTNAME=Cxxxxxxxx-Y

Where Cxxxxxxxx-Y represents _YOUR_  complete OptusNet customer or account
Number, and "xxxxxxxx"  represents numbers, "Y" represents a capital letter.

Note:- After a successful connection to OptusNet, this setting is no longer essential and can be
altered to suit your local internal network instead, for following reboots.

--------------------------------------------------------
Here is a url to a page that gives full instructions for creating an Os/2 bootable
CDrom disk http://cobra.sharpnet.net/~slaughta/
Note:- I have not tried it out yet :)
And I probably won't since the eCS software teams are doing a better job.

--------------------------------------------------------
Here is a short copy of my bookmark file for Os/2.  It is an on-going work
and if anyone has any suggestions or corrections, please email me.
Most of it is as yet unsorted.

--------------------------------------------------------
Here is an example of my configuration of File Commander/2 for Os/2.
FC2.zip

I recommned FC/2 most highly and also suggest that you include FC/2
in your PATH, together with all the archivers you wish to use with it.

The archivers and FC/2 are available from the author's site:-
http://silk.apana.org.au/fc.html

And they are all available from hobbes.

--------------------------------------------------------
Redundant (Warp3 and pre tcp/ip 4.1 Warp4 systems) Information:-

Here is an explained version of MY os2 Tcp/ip 4.0 SETUP16bit tcpip.4_0 file,
for standard out of the box Warp4, and probably Warp3, tcp/ip level OptusNet
access here in Australia. Left click on the above link and save it to your hard drive.

Rename it to Setup.cmd and Copy it into \MPTN\BIN after backing up your previous file if it exists.
It DOES require editing and the removal of the first 6 explanatory lines.
THIS SETUP.CMD file does _NOT_ work with TCP/IP 4.1 or higher.
