Possible C6 alkanals

..........1. hexanal ................................................3. 2,3-dimethylbutanal ................5. 4-methylpentanal

..........2. 3-methylpentanal ..............................4. 2-methylpentanal .....................6. 3,3-dimethylbutanal

There are only five isomers of C6 alkanes. How is it possible to have a greater number of C6 alkanals?

You can't reverse alkanal formulas as you do with alkanes. The carbon atoms are numbered from the end with the double bond between C and O.

For example, there are only two methylpentanes, but there are three methylpentanals.

Actually there is a seventh C6 pentanal besides those illustrated above; it is 2,2-dimethylbutanal.
