Recording Quality: Very good audience tape. All instruments are clear,
and the sound is balanced. There is some hiss, but who cares?
Comments: This is a real stunner of a show; with all the raw power of those early days Led Zeppelin rip into Train Kept A Rollin' and I Can't Quit You -- Page is ludicrously fast and wonderfully coherent and smooth all through the latter, and Robert's vocals are superb. As Robert nervously introduces As Long As I Have You and tries to convince the audience that Garnett Mimms is a great singer there is a deathly silence from the audience. They soon change their minds as Zeppelin take them on an excellent trip and the audience start to clap along. The instrumental sections here are especially good, and in my opinion this is one of the very best As Long As I Have You medleys the band played. Dazed and Confused is very slightly cut near the beginning, but this is another wonderful trip. The bowing section is superb and Page is inventing new riffs as they lead out into the call and response sections. Page soon gets fed up with dueting with Plant and sets off at a ridiculous speed into a superbly aggressive set of fills and solos. There are some very strange chords played near the end to round off a truly inspired 11 minutes. How Many More Times follows, and Robert introduces the group: "I do the singing" -- he then demonstrates with a scary scream before Page and Plant go off into an incredible dueting frenzy. There is a short medley of some odd stuff and another amazing scream from Robert for the gun before an excellent ending, capped with more amazing vocals. Thankfully this is not incomplete as Luis Rey (Live) states. The second half is rather more relaxed -- could this be because all three epics appeared in the first half? -- but nevertheless there is excellent playing and genius around every corner. White Summer is very relaxed, but this is balanced by raw, rushed and powerful versions of Killing Floor and You Shook Me. Bonzo then performs a very aggressive solo in Pat's Delight -- possibly my favourite version. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You cuts in with the start of the vocals and is an excellent version (sufficiently early for Robert to remember how to sing it). Communication Breakdown finishes the show, but the audience will not let the band leave without an encore so they play a really spaced out For Your Love with some really weird wah-wah trips. Superb. Packaging: Adequately packaged in a jewel case with early publicity shots (1968?) on the front and rear. Bottom Line: Very early Zeppelin at their best, and a wonderful recording. Not as good as January 26, but the beginner should seek out this show immediately after that one.
