Services of
Holy Week Book
This 'Services of Holy Week' Book has been compiled and published for the purposes of encouraging the faithful to attend, understand and participate in all the services of the culmination of mankinds salvation through our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ.
This book contains all the services held during Holy Week (ie. morning and evening, from Palm Sunday night through to the Pashcal Services on Saturday and Sunday - see table of contents in the sample pages). These services are based on a modern english translation. This book contains all liturgical text and variations required for all services (ie. rubrics, scriptural readings, triodion and pentecostarion texts are all included) and, as such, it benefits any Orthodox parish or user by streamlining everything needed into one book. In addition, descriptions of the themes and structure of each service is included.
“O Saviour, regard those of us who have come to the season of Your passion, worthy to also worship Your Resurrection” - St Romanos the Melodist
The Book is blessed by His Eminence Metropolitan Archbishop Paul Saliba for use throughout all the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia & New Zealand and will have the following benefits:
A Consistent and Complete Text: All services held during Holy Week and Pascha have been included in the Book. All scriptural readings, hyms, prayers and rubrics are included to ensure that the text is complete (No bible, Triodion, etc needed).
Easy to Read and Understand: At the beginning of every service, a description of the structure and the themes of that service is given so the reader can appreciate the service’s background. The Book’s format aids the reader’s participation, for example all prayers to be read or sung by the congregation are bolded. Headings and rubrics for every part of every service allows the reader to understand the structure and movement of the services.
English: The text is in modern standard English which makes it easy to read. As such, it will be of great benefit to all parishes and missions of our Archdiocese, in particular for the youth (as the service is akin to the Arabic service).
Cost & Quality: At an introductory price for the first year only of AUD$15 per book (AUD$12, if 40 or more are ordered), its great value. Wrap around ring binding gives comfort and easy handling.
