| Q.

Why should I order a Basic Scan Disk
if I am also buying one of the Snapshot-Archive
slideshow formats ? |
|
|
| A.
|
A Basic Scanning Disk holds the master
copies of your digital images. The master
images on a
Basic Scanning Disk can be used as a source for
printing at a photo printing store. They can
also be used as the source
for producing new or replacement slideshows in the
future. Your Basic Scanning Disk should
be kept in a safe place. |

| Q.
|
I already have a program that does
slideshows of digital pictures on my computer.
Can I use my own program with the picture files on
my Snapshot-Archive Basic Scanning Disk? |
|
|
| A.
|
Yes. There should be no problem doing
that. However we would suggest ordering a
second copy of your Basic Scanning Disk for safe
keeping. Our CDs are recorded on high
quality media but like all CDs can be easily
damaged. Regular usage will increase the
chance of damage to your disk and rescanning
the original images is an expensive option compared
to a backup copy.
The down side of using your own software and a
Basic Scanning Disk is the loss of
"portability" available from a
Snapshot-Archive Computer Slideshow. The
optimal solution may to buy one Basic Scanning Disk
for safekeeping and one Computer Slideshow
Disk. A Computer Slideshow Disk can also
be accessed directly with your own slideshow
software. This would allow you to use your own
software at home while retaining the ability to take
the disk and play it on other systems without the
need to install special software each time.

The Computer Slideshow Demonstration
on the Snapshot Archive web site produces a
"BROWSER Version Warning" and
suggests upgrading my browser. I cannot
upgrade because it is a business computer. The
slideshow will not run ! What can I do? |
|
|
| A.
|
The Computer Slideshow software
requires certain features in your browser to work
properly. The programs that control the
slideshow cater for most recent browsers brands and
browser versions but some functions cannot be made
to work on old browsers.
We generally encourage people to upgrade their
browser because browsers, like most
things, keep getting better. In
your case where this is not possible, we would
suggest using alternative slideshow software with
the images on a Snapshot-Archive Computer Slideshow
Disk..
Snapshot-Archive has focused on the highly
portable browser slideshow system and does not plan
to develop specific Windows or Macintosh slideshow
software. If you do not currently have such a
program there are some very nice (free) programs
available. Our favourite for Windows computers
is called Irfanview, which can be found at http://irfanview.tuwien.ac.at

I like the sound of the DVD
service. I have looked in my DVD instruction
book but I still don't know if my DVD player
will play the Mini-DVD disks. |

In this case we would normally
recommend the similar (and more widely supported)
VCD format. Another alternative is to
order a DVD and/or VCD demonstration disk at $5
each. This cost is deductible when you
place an order provided the demonstration disks are
returned in good condition. Send an
email to demodisks@snapshotarchive.com
to request your demonstration disks. |
