How to Use Snapshot-Archive Services
This page is a list of activities and recommendations for
using our services and covers the following general topics.
We recommend printing this page and reading through all
points. The points can then be used as a
checklist as you prepare your order.
If you have any questions about any of the information on
this page please try our FAQ pages.
If your question is not covered by an existing
FAQ please send your query by email to info@snapshot-archive.com.
Planning
Your Order
- Read through the descriptions of all our services on
our Services
pages.
- Decide which services meet your needs. Generally
we recommend buying at least one Basic Scan Disk per
order. A Basic Scan Disk is the master archive of
your digitized pictures.
- If you are particularly interested in our "Computer
Slideshow" Service please try the online
demonstration.
The demonstration will
highlight any compatibility problems between the
slideshow software and your current browser
version. A couple of items on the FAQ pages
discuss this in more
detail.
- Gather together all the slides, photographs, negatives or media containing
images that you already have in digital formats.
- If you wish to use any of the Slideshow Services, divide the images into
one or more slideshow groups and physically separate the groups. Ziploc
plastic bags (available in supermarkets) are a handy way of doing
that. Include a note with each group providing a name for the
slideshow (something descriptive like "Holiday in Tahiti") and the
total number of images in the group.
- Number all the images in each group starting at one and in the order
required for the slideshow. Post-it-notes cut into strips and
attached to non delicate parts of the image are a good way to do this.
Avoid
using ball point pens
and felt markers on the backs of on stacked photographs. These can
sometimes leave marks on the next photograph. Likewise, if you
chose to follow the post-it-note suggestion it be careful of tacky ink.
Write on the back of the notes so the ink is between the note and the back
of the photo ). Leave negative strips whole (and in their protective holders) with one note per
strip, noting the numbers of the individual images that you require. Old negatives (eg Brownie Box etc) can be put in small
envelopes or simply in a folded sheet of paper for protection.
Placing
Your Order
- Visit our Prices
Page and use the calculator to estimate
the approximate total cost for your order. Each
field on the calculator has pop- up help to explain
its purpose and usage.
- The calculator can help you decide on features that suit your needs and
your budget. Follow the instructions on the Prices Page to calculate
the estimated (maximum) cost for your order.
- Please read Coding
Titles and Details
and decide if you want to provide
"titles"
or "full details" with your images .
- When you have settled on the order options that suit you best use the
CREATE ORDER button at the bottom of the Price Estimator. Fill
out the customer details section and press PROCEED to generate and print the
order estimate pages. This will also record your proposed order at
Snapshot-Archive.
- Please email us at orders@snapshotarchive.com
indicating that you intend to mail your order. Please quote the
Estimate ID that is included on the "Order Estimate" sheet.
- Please wait for our acknowledgement before physically sending us your
order.
- When sending an order to Snapshot-Archive you should include the original
media, grouped as described above, the "order Summary" sheet
produced in 4, above and any titles/details files produced in 3, above.
- You should choose a secure method for transporting your original images to
and from Snapshot-Archive. The safest way for local (Melbourne)
customers is to ring Snapshot-Archive and arrange a time to drop them
off. Alternatively we would suggest a traceable courier service or
registered post. The cost of suitably robust packaging is also
recommended to guarantee your images are not damaged in transit.
- The calculator on our Prices Page does not cover the cost of sending your
order to Snapshot-Archive nor the corresponding cost for returning them to
you. The method chosen is up to you, and where possible,
the return arrangements should be pre-arranged and pre-paid.
Additional costs for returning your material will be included on your
invoice.
Paying
For Your Order
Snapshot-Archive will send you an
itemized invoice for the service(s) provided and including
GST.
The cost of your invoice will
not exceed the cost estimate on the order summary you
prepared when sending your order, unless additional items
are included subsequent to placing your order.
Examples of additional charges would be due to requests from
yourself to add additional services (eg extra copies of
disks) or perhaps costs to cover the return of your original
images.
