VHS Slideshow tapes provide non-interactive slideshows of your pictures on your TV using a standard Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) or Player.

Features Summary
  • Each "slideshow" consists of  one or more pictures.
  • Each tape can store multiple slideshows.
  • Each tape can hold 3 hours of slideshow viewing.
  • The total number of "slides" depends on how long you choose to display each picture.
  • Images are displayed "full screen" scaled to fit horizontally or vertically depending on picture orientation.
  • Usage instructions will be included with each tape.

Please read the considerations, below,  that you should be aware of before any decision to buy a VHS slideshow from Snapshot-Archive.

General Recommendation

We recommend the purchase of a "Basic Scanning" disk with all our non-computer slideshow formats.  A "Basic Scanning" disk is a re-useable archive of your digitized images.  This provides a  low cost basis for ordering other formats in the future, or for creating a replacement tape if your slideshow is lost or damaged.

VHS Considerations

The VHS technology restricts the features and image quality that we can provide for our Snapshot-Archive VHS Slideshow.

The  ubiquity of the VCR means that a VHS Slideshow may suit your needs over our other slideshow formats,  however,  before deciding to order a Snapshot-Archive VHS Slideshow, please read the points.

VHS slideshows are slightly more expensive because they are created by producing  a VCD Slideshow which is then played and recorded onto video tape.   If you order both formats the total price will be discounted.

VHS Slideshows record your pictures "serially" on videotape.  CD and DVD technology provides the ability to access pictures anywhere on a disk very quickly.  This is not possible with information recorded on tape.  The tape must be wound forward or backward to locate specific pictures.

Although most VCR equipment provides a pause or slow motion capability the picture is often distorted in these modes.  Some more recent tape players can hold a still image more reliably but the best image is usually available during normal "play mode"

Images in a VHS Slideshow are recorded for a set period of time to provide "continuous play mode" for slideshow viewing.  The time interval  cannot be changed after the tape has been created.

By default each image is displayed for five seconds,  however  you can select a different time interval when you make your order.

As noted, above,  your player may provide good results in pause or slow motion modes, but this cannot be guaranteed.  Usually the best way to view a picture for longer than the recorded time will be to rewind slightly and play it again.

The final point that you should consider is that,  due to the  technology involved, you should not expect your slideshows on VHS tape to match the quality of any of our disk based slideshow formats.
