It's easier to say than to do (and twice as obvious), but here are the basics of what you need to do to climb the Metal Knights Hall of Fame:
Reaching the highest ranks of the HOF is a
campaign. You have to be prepared to play a lot of games in a relatively short period of
time. It is quite easy to fall behind if you don't play enough (take me, I was once a
Lt.Colonel on mk.com. Due to lack of recent games, I am now only a Captain!). This is due
to the rate of point gaining of the Metal Knight. In a way, it is like a ladder that is
getting longer all the time. If you can't climb faster than the ladder gets longer, you
will never reach the top. It's as simple as that.
As I have stated above, the way to climb fast
enough is to play a lot of games (3-4 at all times is a minimum) on one server against
high ranking players, defeating them regularly. This is what send you up the HOF. Playing
games in a manner contrary to this is to dilute your efforts. Playing against only low
rankers is too easy and gains you very few points. Losing does nothing good for your
average and actually sends you down the HOF. Playing over several different servers just
reduces the speed at which you can improve on any one server. Not playing enough games
makes it very difficult to keep up, much less improve. Having said that though, there are
a couple of other things you can do to help yourself along.
First of these is to pick your opponents. It is
usually easier to defeat a high ranker (Major or higher) with a bad record than it is to
defeat even a middle ranker (Sergeant to Captain) with a good record. To determine who
these people are, whenever you are thinking about joining a game, take a look at their
records in the NetMetal Player Search
on the Metal Knights Homepage. In general, a high ranker with less than 10 Officer Kills
and a ratio lower than 5 is probably not going to be too difficult for a highly skilled
player. On the other hand, if you come across a middle ranker with 5 or more officer kills
and a ratio of above 10, then you are probably looking at someone at least as good as you
are. Unless you are looking for a risky game (and lots of fun), then you should probably
steer clear.
The second way to help yourself reach the top
is to become the leader of a strong alliance. Because the leader of an alliance gets 5
points every time the alliance wins a game, being that leader can be quite rewarding. It
doesn't hurt your chances of actually learning more about the game either :)
