Goddard Space Flight Center
(GSFC), was established in 1959 as NASA's first center devoted to the
exploration of space. It was named for Dr. Robert Goddard, the father of
modern rocketry. Goddard continues to take a lead role in Earth and Space
Science and Technology.
The NASA Goddard Space
Flight Center Visitor Center offers educational opportunities relating to
its three enterprises:
• Earth Science - Goddard Space Flight
Center is advancing the understanding of the Earth as an environmental
system enabling scientists to determine long-term effects of natural and
human activity on the Earth's resources.
• Space Science - In cooperation with
partners worldwide, Goddard is seeking answers about the formation of the
universe, the evolution of the stars and their planetary systems, and the
properties of interplanetary space.
• Technology - Goddard Space Flight Center
is a national leader in the development and utilization of cutting-edge
technologies that impact the world. Commercial applications of criminal
investigations, medical applications, and weather monitoring systems.
