We were with Jason, on the cat again.

As I rolled into the water the buckle on my mask fell apart. I was lucky to still have it in my hand! Jason passed me a spare. Not a terrific start to the dive though.

My object was to get to 33 m. I followed Illana down, she stopped at about 32 m. I went just below her.

Bellow I could see the reef a few meters below. The visibility was not that great. When I looked up I saw Tony silhouetted against the surface.

We hung there for a few minutes before going back up. The objective was to get below 30 m and complete the deep course. Not to spend a great deal of time on the bottom.

We some very pretty purple dinoflagellates on the way up and down.

Here's what Illana had to say:

Beautiful morning and the ocean is like a pond. Straight out through the heads - 1 km of North Head and we find Doubt reef. Unfortunately Jason can only find an anchor point near 37 metres, and at final resting looks like it is 43 metres. We go down the anchor line and at 32 metres stop until Tony catches down to us. Stephen has his heart set on 33 metres - so he slips down a metre more. We hang on the line for a while - you can see the reef over to the side of the line - lots of fish around it. Not a lot of colour down that far though. Lots of phosfluresence in the water - winking and sparkling in the light like blue opals. Coming back up we stop on 21 metres for a while - the outline of the boat is clear to see, and the sun's rays coming down through the water are a real treat.
