It had been raining all week. And Fairlight is in the harbour, so it was not as clear as it should be.

Our first time here. And by ourselves. So we just go in and familiarise ourselves with the area between the pool and the point. There was surging and lots of different fish.

We have decided to go back and explore this by ourselves. Each time going a little further. There is a drop off out from the point that promises to be interesting when we get there.

We like Fairlight, it's a nice quiet beach. But this dive was to prove that the quiet place can cause troubles and those basic skills you learn in the open water course are very useful.

It was rougher than last time. We entered via the beach again and Illana had trouble putting her fins on. She ended up using her occy before we actually started the dive.

The vis was great. I could see Illana most of the time. Not a bad trick considering we were holding hands!

We found the drop off and got down to 9.7m. Didn't find the wreck, next time.

When we surfaced we had travelled a little too far East. We were around the point towards Manly.

As we go back around I got too close to the point and ended up on the rocks. I'm sure I can repair that wetsuit. At least my leg doesn't need repairing.

While I was on the first rock, considering if I should climb out on the point or bight the bullet and jump back in between the rocks and go for the swimming pool. I shouted to Illana to go back in via Fairlight Beach, she had been on my left and avoided the rocks.

After a few minutes I realize that rocks may not be climbable, even without my scuba gear. So I jump back in and submerge to avoid the worst of the battering.

Eventually I make the outside of the pool. But as I get there my weight belt has slipped, so I grab it and put in on the side of the pool. The next wave sweeps it into the pool.

I am fixated on getting over the pool fence. So I take a few minutes and then climb up the side of the pool. I must have got the timing almost perfect because I don't actually remember climbing over the pool fence. But the water was so much calmer in the pool.

I dumped my BCD and dived for my weight belt. Then swam down the pool and passed it to Illana. Who was suitably exhausted herself from her beach exit.

Went back for the BCD and climbed out using the pool ladder.
