Compound Slide Modification Page 2

I did some drilling and then some "chain" slot drilling as shown above. That's a 3 flute slot drill. I had the vise bolted down such that I could loosen the job move it a bit then slot drill down.

After a bit of filing and filing and filing.

The two drill process of getting a flat bottomed hole to suit a socket head cap screw. Drilling down with a normally sharpened drill

Then drilling down with a  flat end sharpened drill. The flat end sharpened drill is kept for future use in the "specials" box.

All assembled, that's a No 3 morse taper there, that's good! I can do tapers for the work head spindle now.

The No 2's  will be a breeze now, previously I had to do them in 2 bites.

Extended towards the tailstock, obviously one wouldn't want to be taking maximus cuts in this position.

Fully extended towards the left, you can't see it but the screw protrudes by about 1/2". I'll get around to fitting a little closed end hollow cover to stop swarf from getting in.

This should be a new window, minimise or close it to return to Home Page or press
