I was intrigued by the idea from THE LAB site of using cheap Terracotta pots as a lining for a furnace so I thought I'd give it a go. I've cut a section of one 20 litre drum to be the top piece. The top piece has the bottom cut out of the flowerpot. I just used a metal cutting abrasive disk in disk grinder. The pot material is pretty soft. The main drum has the bottom cut out and 2, 1" x 1/8" mild steel strips welded to hold the bottom of the drum in shape etc. I have no idea how these pots and this design using burners will hold up in use but am hoping everything will be OK even if for a limited life.

Had to be careful with both parts to make sure the flowerpot was centrally located and held (by hand) firmly when putting in initial concrete. I used a total of 3 bags of cement/sand mix (10 Kg) bags. In each mix I chucked in a couple of handfulls of Diatomite, just to bulk it up really, lucky I did as 3 bags of the cement/sand mix turned out just right. The flowerpots were $3 each and the bags of mix less than $5 each.

Timber pieces in place. One each side for burners and pieces of broom stick for catastrophic aluminium spill drain hole.

My 1" Mongo burners in place. Both drums mate up at their original tops, there is a reduced diameter which is located by a steel ring.

Looking down into the beast.

Burning beautifully,, Ahhhhh!!
