Oh LOVELY!

My new small steel crucible in place. It is small enough to lift up through the exhaust hole. There is the steel ring that locates the two halves together.

Plumbago crucible in place. Top half of furnace has to be removed to get this one out.

Just short duration burns to thoroughly dry out the concrete. I let it naturally cure for about a week before these burns. I expect that the flowerpots will probably crack but so long as they stay together it should work ok.

Looking down into the beast with the Plumbago crucible in place and low flame. I am going to wrap the outside of both pieces of furnace in insulating material and then sheet steel (from old 20 Litre drums) around the outside of that. I will do a melt in a couple of days.
