Good, the steel bracket I made about a month ago is going to be used again. There are a number of ways this job could have been done, I choose this way.

Centre punched both ends of hammer head. Before starting on machining the hammers I did the highly scientific strength test of flogging the hell out of them by hammering them down against a hardwood block on the concrete floor.

I mounted hammer between centres.

I made a flycutter (out of home cast Aluminium of course). I faced head until it measured 25mm to handle.

After flycutting I reset the cross-slide to a measurement I took when I set the hammer on the bracket.

Centre drilling the machined face.

Drilling with 3/8" drill to 20mm deep.
