Drilling with 17/32" drill, the tapping size for 5/8" BSW

Counter bore tool with 17/32" diameter spigot.

Counter bore in action, the spigot location ensures a nice steady boring action. I did all machining operations at 900RPM.

Tapping with 5/8" BSW tap. After starting it by turning chuck by hand and with the help of the chuck key I loosened chuck and moved saddle away then finished tapping by using a shifting spanner (monkey wrench).

Hole has been tapped with a taper tap followed by a bottoming tap. Now the tapped hole is chamfered.

Setting up the second end between centres. The previous machining sequence is then done on the second end.

Arhhh, 3 new hammers. I still have the original there which I prepared and used as the pattern ; hummm, do I need another one? I might just have to cast one more, and recess the heads with a plain hole and wrap some rawhide and fit. A rawhide faced hammer, yes I need one of them, I actually have a small copper/rawhide hammer which I use a lot in small machining work.
