Aluminium Blocks For Head Dismantler

Bottom side of mounted pattern, more sprue, runner and gate than pattern. The finished article will be blocks for my cylinder head dismantler.

I cast 6 of these Aluminium blocks for the cylinder head dismantler that I built several years ago. Up to now I had been using a couple of small wood blocks to take the role of the Aluminium blocks. So I am happy that after so many years I have finally made the necessary blocks. The head is off the scrap Renault engine I have, as shown on my "Scrap To Ingots" page.

Closer shot.

Continuing with the dismantly. I have several different size and shape "pushers" to suit smaller valve caps and more restricted areas. When I use the dismantler I put a piece of rag down to look after the paint a bit.

The magnet tool in the foreground is handy to lift the collets clear of the spring retainer. All collets and springs out, good, now I can get back to my beer. For anyone wondering what the 4 steel tubes are; the spark plugs go down inside them, when the rocker cover is in place the tubes protude up through the top. Rubber rings fit up near the top of the tubes to seal against oil leaks out the top of the rocker cover. The tubes are a press fit into the head (I think, pretty sure) so I'll weld a sliding hammer rod on to them and coax them out. Some how this head is going to end up in the "pot".
