Let us pray - not

The following article was in my local suburban newspaper today. At a recent local council meeting where I live in Sydney, councillor Nick Adams proposed the following motion:

In everyday life, we are confronted with difficulties," he said. "I believe in the church and the traditional family values and conservatism that both the church and the Bible espouse. In order to assist us with the important decisions we make, I suggest we pray"

This is the kind nonsense that keeps rearing its ugly head nowadays. The fundamentalist christians feel emboldened to put these things forward, and feel they should impose their personal beliefs into the public sphere. I blame Bush. His success in gaining support of the same kind of people in the USA is giving encouragement for others as far away as a local council in a Sydney suburb.

Fortunately, the council overwhelmingly rejected the motion, calling it divisive and the councillor offensive. The Mayor said that to introduce a council meeting with christian prayers is to slight the buddhist, hindu and muslim communities by identifying the municipal leaders with the christian faith".

I might add that we atheists don't think much of the suggestion either.

Blame Bush All You Want , the problem with every day society today is Socalisism and its promoting of its demographic to weak minded people such as yourself as they have nothing else to inspire expect the utter decay and lack of respect it brings. witch seems to inspire people like yourself

Before you go knocking chrisitanity why dont you take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and ask why you are atheist , i was once in the same boat till i descoverd self pride and self respect , thanks to people like Clr Nick Adams . despite what faith you may be maybe it may be worth a study to see why the Silent Majoirty retlated and finally fought back in the Australian And American Elections Voting back John Howard and George W Bush . with no abstance of remorce in thier voting expect for the small minute restiance of a almost non existent Left wing predgiest of religiouse values , witch will become a vacant memory in the next few years and sooner the better i say

GREAT JOB CLR NICK ADAMS

I wonder why the person who posted the comment above was afraid to use his or her name. No doubt the poster trawls the internet looking for blogs to be upset about, who knows. Since the comment on my post is quite incoherent and mindless, I thought a suitable reply might go as follows: (although I have had to correct the unbelievable number of spelling errors and poor grammar)

"Blame Bush All You Want , the problem with every day society today is mindless christian fundamentalism and its promoting of its demographic to weak minded people such as yourself - as they have nothing else to inspire except the utter decay and lack of respect it brings. which seems to inspire people like yourself .

Before you go knocking secularism why dont you take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and ask why you are a christian. I was once in the same boat till I discoverd self pride and self respect. Despite what "faith" you may be (although it sounds more like mindless belief) maybe it may be worth a study to see why the Slight Majority gave in to hatred and fear in the Australian and American Elections voting back John Howard and George W Bush . With no absence of remorse in their voting except for the loud beligerent resistance of an almost non existent Right Wing Fundamentalist wing prejudiced against decent human values and basic honesty, which hopefully will become a vacant memory in the next few years and sooner the better i say

GREAT JOB CLR NICK ADAMS, HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE"

There. See how easy it is to spew forth mindless invictive instead of rational argument? Mr Anonymous, you are typical of the sort of christian, if that's what you are, who gives Christianity a bad name. Fortunately, I know many wonderful Christians, who actually practice what they preach, unlike the likes of anonymous you.
