When Igino FOGHETTI was born in 1904 in Italy, his mother, Filomena, died in childbirth. Igino's father, Gaetano FOGHETTI, remarried to 2nd wife, Augusta. But, as so often happens, Augusta favoured her own children over Igino and the boy's childhood was a very difficult one.
Life improved after Igino's marriage to Caterina SPADONI and in their later years the couple made a good living buying locally grown vegetables and selling them at the market in Fano. Their daughters, Faustina and Josepina, both married foreigners. Faustina married a British soldier she met after WW2 and Josepina married a Polish soldier a short time later. While both Faustina and Josepina settled with their husbands in the UK, both sisters and their families made frequent visits back to Italy to visit Igino and Caterina. For these visits Igino and Caterina would organise special tours of the holy sites in Italy which would involve hiring a coach for the family and as many members of their local community as they could squeeze in.
