CHILD OF SUNDAY
You ask them to explain God
in words you will understand,
God is the one who maketh us
but doesn't maketh us into man
God maketh us to replace
those who are dying on earth,
so we will have enough people
to share and do their worth
God will first maketh us into a baby
they're small and don't take up space,
God won't even have to teach them
how to walk or say their grace
Gods time is too valuable
God is there to listen to us pray,
no time for TV or videos
or play around all day
God hears everything, you know
right down to every cough,
or maybe God has learnt by now
how to shut all that noise off
I do know that God always
sees, hears and knows what I do,
that is why I'm always good
is that your reason too?

CHILD OF MONDAY
Now that it's Monday
I have my school books on my back,
my jacket done up tight
a drink with my lunch pack
I shall hurry off to school
not wanting to be late,
I will meet up at the corner
with my best friend and mate
Then we will both decide
as we kick at a stone,
what we will do after school
on our way back home
Will we be late
and go on down by the creek,
or wander to the ghost house
and in the window peek
Will we go down by the river
to make up fishing poles,
dig for our treasures
then bury them in holes
Will we go by the graveside
and wait till the night is black,
or we could always go home first
then after dinner sneak out to go back
I feel this is going to be
another very busy day,
but how could a 7 year old
have it any other way

CHILD OF TUESDAY
Yesterday I was in trouble
I didn't have a chance,
she found that I had lizards
in the pocket of my pants
To my face it bought a smile
as I watched her scream in fright,
I tried to calm her down
as I explained that they don't bite
That wasn't all she was upset about
I shook my head to agree,
I was breaking all the rules
so she would have to punish me
This didn't sound too good
I knew she'd tell my dad,
he would then start a lecture
asking why I had been bad
I started out by saying sorry
I would never do that again,
she smiled and said don't worry
after all you're only ten

CHILD OF WEDNESDAY
It's the middle of the week
and two more days to go,
when my dad takes me to the footy
or maybe to a show
It will all depend on the weather
on what we decide to do,
the sky looks okay now
in fact it's rather blue
Maybe he will go play golf
and I could tag along,
I couldn't really play
I would do it all wrong
Once he gave me a nine iron
but to me it looked like one,
but it didn't really matter
for I only played for fun
tonight I will hurry home
do my homework well,
so when he asks if I've been good
I'm sure my mum will tell
© abritelite
CHILD OF THURSDAY
I am dressed in my woollens
the clouds are full and grey,
the trees are looking angry
as their crooked branches sway
I am thinking about the weekend
at what we may do,
we could always see a movie
or hire a video or two
we could try out our new fire place
for dad has chopped some wood,
mum could let me toast marsh mellows
last time she said I could
I don't really mind the cold
or this kind of weather,
it's fun with mum and dad
it brings us all together

CHILD OF FRIDAY
I picked some mushrooms from the garden
I thought they'd be rather yummy,
I took them home to eat
but they caused an upset tummy
I couldn't go to school
for I was not well,
so I stayed in my bed
and into sleep I fell
I dreamed of some monsters
that looked all kinds of green,
they were the biggest monsters
that I had ever seen
when I awoke
I felt kind of scared,
my dad must have heard me
for he rushed to my bed
he then showed me a book
about how monsters weren't real,
I shook my head that I knew
that it was no great big deal
I then felt my tummy rumble
and saw the look on my dads face,
that was when he called my mum
and out the door he raced

CHILD OF SATURDAY
I wonder if they're watching
are their eyes upon me?
I am going to make them proud
so proud as can be
It is my very first time
that I have had to perform like this,
the school is having a concert
something no one should miss
I am going to be an angel
with wings tied to my back,
with makeup on my face
my eyelashes painted black
I will be wearing my new shoes
they have taps on the toes,
so while I am dancing
you will hear them I suppose
There will be some other children
they are all from my grade
all of our costumes
are what our proud parents made
the costumes are all different
only one will glitter and shine
so remember when you're watching
that is the costume that is mine
CHILDREN OF
MINE
I smile at
them so proudly
waving them off
for the day,
holding each
others hand
as they skip
along the way
I know that they
will do well
one day they
will both leave,
they will both
be very happy
doing in what
they achieve
He may become a
lawyer
or a carpenter
with tools,
he may lead our
country
or rid us of our
fools
She may be a
dancer
or maybe a
doctors wife,
whatever they
either chose
both will have a
good life
At the moment
they have
the world right
at their feet,
for these are my
children
the brightest
you'll ever meet

CYBER

Our fingers are
our voice
that speak so
clear,
our eyes are our
ears
for us to hear
It is our escape
from the world
outside,
a place to
download
problems
we need to hide
You can say
things
you may never
have said,
you will read
things
you may never
have read
You can touch
things
without even a
feel,
sit and stare
yet movement so
real
This seems real
this virtual
romance,
and some may
feel it
deserves a
chance

CHAT
we chatted with our fingers
our eyes were our ears,
we shared our emotions
unloaded all our fears
we became good friends
you and I,
we learnt how to laugh
we knew how to cry
so anytime your passing
you want a chat with me,
I'm sure I'll be here
so drop in and see

CAMPFIRE
To sit around the campfire
relive dreams of past,
while watching the sun set
see the sky overcast,
The sight of the distance
the sound of dying cattle,
knowing the work of that day
was just half of the battle,
The river still low
the land cracked and dry,
what was achieved was worth it
without wondering why

CAN'T BUY ME LOVE
How does it feel
living in a house so huge,
no one else around,
to share a life of refuge
You can have the whole world
every item on the shelves,
but it's no use
when we're all by our selves
what does it take
to admit you are wrong,
what does it feel like
when you're where you belong
I pity what you don't have
for what you can't buy,
for the only thing you have
are the tears I hear you cry
I sit here in my room
which I may never own,
but I do know one thing
I am never alone
Take all your riches
they're a material bore,
I'd rather have love
for it means much more

CHANGES
Life is nothing without you
there is no night or day,
the taste of food is bland
colour has turned to grey
Flowers have shed their petals
clouds have covered the sky,
I see trees dropping leaves
the rivers are becoming dry
Tears from my eyes that fall
form icicles on my cheeks,
my heart is barely beating
no meaning to what I speak
What can I do to change this
how can I brighten the day,
where's the smiles and laughter
or children at their play
I must get back to living
but you are on my mind,
I need to find an interest
leaving my woes far behind
I will make the sun shine
I shall clear the sky,
I can make life worthwhile
I only need to try
© abritelite
COLOURS
As the moon shines through the clouds
there reigns a golden glow,
the once green grass is covered
by a pure white melting snow
The clouds go drifting by
they show a tinge of grey,
the reflecting yellow sun
slowly fades away
Now the pale blue sky
reflects a flickering light,
they are many stars
that sparkle in the night
As my finger tips touch the petals
of the flowers resting in their beds,
many are pinks the purples
and different shades of reds
It then reminds me of my friends
the things that we all go through,
no matter the colour of our moods
our friendships always grew

CHRISTMAS WISH
Santa please can you bring
something extra special to me
it won't take up much space
beneath my Christmas tree
to some it's not very big
in fact it's rather small
but it is what I want most
in this whole wide world
It does comes in many sizes
and the colour I don't mind
just send me what you have
it won't be hard to find
So on Christmas morning when I awake
I will see a star sparkling above
I will know that you filled my wish
with all your peace and all your love

CURIOSITY
They called him weird and very strange
and they would tell us to keep away,
but I was young and curious
and went out to run and play
I headed up the road
running across the other side,
I wanted to see this man
when I did I nearly cried
He was on his front porch
rocking on an old oak chair,
his beard was long and shaggy
with a pony tail in his hair
A cat was purring on his knee
he was stroking him with pride,
a dog appeared from nowhere
coming from the other side
It was when the dog growled
I started shaking at the knees,
then the man waved his arms
the dog headed toward the trees
He spoke as his eyes fell upon me
in a voice so gentle but gruff,
something about his manner
showed the life he lived was tough
He invited me in for a soda
I thanked him but declined,
saying that I must be on my way
if he really didn't mind
I told him I would another time
if I was passing by this way,
then wondered why all those people
believed the words of what others say

CHRISTMAS PAY
It's Christmas time again
where the purses open out,
the shopping lists are longer
as the kids begin to shout
I want a Harry Potter book
I'm after a DVD,
I'm hoping for a computer
but I will settle for my own TV
Now the purse is empty
the credit card run up dry,
then I go visit the Bank Manager
and he asks the question "why?"
Doesn't the man know it's Christmas
and Father Christmas is no longer free,
I just need something to tie me over
how much can you lend to me
Then he tells me of the repayments
and the interest on top of this,
he reminds me of an overdraft
there was nothing he was going to miss
He jotted down all the figures
of what my expected income would be,
I started to think real hard
wondering if I could afford a Christmas tree
Then there was food that had to be bought
and the fuel bill was over due,
and there he was still writing
the amounts just grew and grew
There was one thing I was really sure of
and that was my kids would never miss out,
I would get an extra job
cause money is what it's all about

CARE
There are times in your life
that you don't care or feel free,
you know you have a heart
but you feel you've lost the key
It sometimes takes a while
to learn that people care,
some things not easy to talk about
nor are they easy to share
Because of many loving people
who were there but not to blame,
who tried with understanding
to take away the shame
The one's that I am thankful
are my friends that helped me through,
to redeem my self respect
and take courage in what I do

CHALLENGE
When the road ahead
seems all uphill,
when things go wrong
as they always will
When the debts run high
the money comes slow,
the need for a drive
but the fuel is low
There is no place for a smile
all you can manage is a sigh,
the truth will hurt
so your forced to lie
Life is a challenge
it will twist and turn,
everyone's a teacher
as no one will learn
No punches to be pulled
just stick to the plight,
who cares if no one listens
you know you were right

CHRISTMAS EVE
It was the last day to do shopping
before challenging the Christmas dinner
our arms over laden with food
no worries about who was thinner
Everything from the traditional turkey
the hind pork and leg of lamb
all the roast spuds and many veggies
and of course the Christmas ham
Not to mention the beer and wine
that would follow all the eats
the Christmas pudding and custard
as always there were too many sweets
The house ablaze with colour
streamers glistening within the light
Santa's image on the rooftop glowing
getting ready for that night
The children were in their glory
decorating their favourite tree
not forgetting the milk and muffins
for Santa and all of his reindeer
never have I seen a child
so excited to go to sleep
snuggled up their eyes closed tight
not even bothering to count the sheep
the main work was finally over
the children finally asleep and quiet
but too soon it became morning
even in the dark they caused a riot
the noise of all their toys
music blaring without a care
the squeals of their delight
showed Christmas was everywhere

CHRISTMAS IS COMING
Christmas is coming
so try to behave,
clean up the mess
don't rant or rave
Santa will want to see
that you have been good,
you need to behave
you promised you would
I suppose you expect
all the things on your list,
but things don't come free
and you cannot insist
So why don't you give
a little of your self,
it's something you can't buy
or find on a shelf
It will lighten Santa's load
for it's not heavy nor small,
it's an abundance of peace
and good will to all

COLD
All I could see before my eyes
was a mist of smidgen grey,
it had been raining rather heavily
on this miserable wintry day
Wiping my hand over the window
to enable me to see,
if today would be any different
than any other day would be
I thought of the days with sun
and a sky so blue and clear,
of children and their laughter
how bright it was to hear
These days with blustering winds
and rain from a darkened sky,
an old coat wrapped around me
to stay warm, I can only try
Another day marked from the calendar
gives one more day towards the sun,
the blue cloudless skies we love
the green grass where we can run
I absorb warmth from an open flame
rubbing the palms of my hands together,
I know I'm not the only one
that looks forward to warmer weather

COST OF FREEDOM
My body stiffens in anxiety
as I lay back in my chair,
again the door knocks
I don't wonder who's there
I hold the baby close
as he suckles for his due,
there's nothing much left now
maybe a day or two
My eyes fixed on the cupboard
he's taken the TV for greed,
nothing much left now
he has his habit to feed
I hear another knock
my throat wells with tears,
I know who it must be
we are well in arrears
He is always so sorry
again and again,
then I notice his agony
and unbearable pain
He leaves me alone here
when he is in need of a fix,
off to do his own thing
he has his own tricks
But I must find a way out
to save the baby and me,
to find myself some courage
to set us both free

COUNTRY DRIVE
I took a drive in the country
to a place I've never been,
once a bare and dry existence
now tranquillity and serene
As I gaze upon its beauty
at the trees so proud and tall,
finding a place to rest my being
by the stream and water fall
Flowers growing all around me
show a radiance of coloured faces,
giving thoughts of where I'm from
and the people of many races
I form a reflection from the waters
showing what I've left behind,
a solitude of memories
that are never hard to find
© abritelite
CROWDED ROOM
The room was very crowded
I felt so alone,
I need you to call
just pick up the phone
I haven't heard a word
even a letter from you,
would help me understand
I don't know what to do
You asked me if I loved you
you asked me if I'd wait,
I told you that I would
that forever was a date
I never did realize
how much I could ache,
or even known how long
forever would take
I'm looking around the room
I feel I cannot breath,
if only you were here
for together we could leave

CLEANSING
Everyone keeps
on telling me
my house is such
a mess?
they ask if I'd
been on my
computer
I have to always
answer "yes"
They tell me to
get off my butt
to clean and
tidy my house,
so the first
thing I started
on
were the smudges
from my mouse
I wiped and
shined my
monitor
That really did
the trick.
I started wiping
each key
when oops, the
control key went
'click'
Then low and
behold I came
across
what appeared to
be an
interesting site
I was so
absorbed in my
find
the day had
turned into
night
So nothing's
changed except
my mouse
and a monitor so
shiny and clean
I guess my house
will stay a
mess...
while I recheck
the sites I've
seen
