THE STORM

The sky above is overcast
with massive clouds of grey,
The once beautiful trees look angry
as their crooked branches sway

The earth around our feet
is swollen and thick with mud,
The sound above is deafening
with a roar and mighty thud

A ray of light overhead
forms a flash of lightning,
It is not a pretty sight
in fact it's rather frightening

The thundering clouds break open
heavy rains fall from the sky,
All our belongings drenched
there is nothing left that's dry

The day has now been ruined
the day we planned together,
As nature plays its usual games
we did not count on the weather

TO NEED SOME SPACE

I don't have time to listen
when you talk to me that way,
this doesn't mean I don't care
in the words you have to say

It's just that I have my days
which means I need some space,
to be alone and by myself
you should see it in my face

I know you are my friend
but you really need to know,
there are times I need to be alone
those times when you should go

I am having a bad time right now
and you are very dear to me,
but please for just today
I really need to be free

I will take the time to think
of the things that are on my mind,
I feel so very lost
it's myself I need to find

Tomorrow I may feel different
and will want you to be close by,
Then if you're still my friend
maybe then you can ask me why

THE EYE CAN'T SEE

I saw an angel sitting
by the big willow tree,
writing in a book
with eyes searching me

I was more intrigued
as I watched her in awe,
I had never seen an angel,
well not a real one before

I turned around to call
my friends who were also there,
then I realized they had gone
there was no one anywhere

I slowly walked on over
as I looked up to the sky,
I wanted to ask the reason
but I was feeling rather shy

I looked down onto the paper
but the words could not be read,
the ink I thought was invisible
only the angel knew what it said

Looking up at me
with elegance and grace,
as she invited me to sit
I saw a smile upon her face

These words you cannot see
is all that I have learned,
they only hold the truth
then another page was turned

She was writing my every thought
whether bitter sad or kind,
that is why it was invisible
no one can read what's in my mind

As we wave our goodbyes
to Two thousand and three,
a year of concern
I'm sure you'll agree

Not much was knowledge
from which we could gain,
and many sad memories
that would always remain

The world around us
faced turmoil and toll,
nothing in particular
that we could aim our goal

Hundreds and Thousands
faced destruction and fear,
nothing to look forward to
this coming new year

A sign of the times
we live in today,
Violence and greed
all along the way

A world war in many minds
words uttered in silence,
we've all had enough
of destruction and violence

Can we pick up from were we left
only a few years ago,
where there was laughter and assurance
where no one said no

But if you're a believer
of fortune and fate,
don't ever give up
it's never too late

TERROR

Fingers spread from heavy hands
as they bury right into me,
burning deep into my flesh
as I fight so desperately

My head spinning my mind is numb
as I'm thrown against a wall.
I feel only excruciating pain
already on my knees, I begin to fall

wiping the spittle from the back of my hand
I sight the clotted blood,
then to the side of my spinning head
I feel an almighty thud

Too terrified to show my pain
my insides are screaming "why?"
while fighting back with all my being
for I did not want to die

The clothes that I once adorned
were now strewn everywhere,
to them I was just a piece of meat
as a pack they were about to share

I drift to a world of unconsciousness
with the devils forced entry I awake,
my eyes gaze down upon my body
as I watch them at their take

They have left me now in blackened silence
their rubbish in a heap on the ground,
my tears flow into burning wounds
with hope that I am never found

A voice inside me is saying
that the rubbish is a reflection of me.
something I must learn to live with
while the pack again will be set free

THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE
On the day you were born
when they announced I was a mother,
I can't put feelings into words
but it was a dream like no other
Of all the months of waiting
knowing the movements inside were alive
I counted the hours of each day
for this moment to arrive
Now I have so much to live for
of this you to be a part,
my heart so full of love
I don't know where to start
Like the first time I held you
love overwhelmed me so much,
you were so precious and delicate
like the softness was your touch
I often rocked your cradle
watching while you were in sleep
your little hand clasped my finger
many memories to treasure I would keep
I make a promise to you my baby
I will always be near,
to nurture and to love you
for when you need me I'll be here

THE BIRD

The bird is perched upon the window sill,
the rain pelts down the bird is still,
Watching me from the corner of her eye,
so terrified she just wants to fly.

I could offer some crumbs or maybe some seed,
but her thoughts are way far from a feed,
She knows she's left a nest in the tree,
it is sheltered there but she can't get free.

Looking up to the sky for a break of the sun,
her only thoughts are the needs of her young,
Just like a mum putting first her child,
but fighting storms and the preys of the wild.

THE LOTTERY

I have just won a few million dollars
now where do I begin,
first I plug up the holes
to keep out the blowies that may come in

How do I manage it alone
maybe put some aside,
for the years ahead of me
but what happens if I died

now that brings to mind
to my testimony and wills,
but the first thing I should do
is to pay those mounted bills

Oh I have a headache
it's too much money just for one,
why did I buy that ticket
I thought that winning would be fun

There are people already here
before I'm paid my prize,
with there smiles and well wishes
but I see through their disguise

There won't be any handouts given
to just any louse about,
or to that long lost friend
who I will have a conscious doubt

Now I have all that money
but I don't feel rich at all,
it can not buy love or happiness
the most expensive of them all

TREASURE

I hold in my hands
a box of gold,
the secret inside
has never been told

The box is priceless
but as I see,
the treasure inside
is more valuable to me

Today I want to share
this treasure with you,
It is a treasure of trust
and a friendship that grew

THE NOTE

On the day that she passed away
in her hand she clasped a note,
I treasure it with all my heart
these are the words she wrote,

"I didn't wish to be a burden
but I knew my days were few,
just by staying here with me
I felt somehow you knew

You have been my one true blessing
that made my life worth while,
you never once complained
yet you were just a mere child

A child born out of love
who always made me very proud,
an inner smile was your attraction
that drew attention of any crowd

on the outside you weren't pretty
you looked a lot like me,
but your heart was filled with a kindness
so easy for people to see

The reason that I am writing this
is to make sure that you know,
to me you were more than life itself
making me proud as I watched you grow.."

I folded the note carefully
and clasped it in my hand,
wiping a tear from my cheek
I said "I know mom, I understand"

TO MY VALENTINE
~You have always been there for me~
Through all the bad and good.
You have always been there for me,
like any loved one should.
~You have always been there for me~
When I thought no one cared.
You have always been there for me,
helping me when I was scared
~You have always been there for me~
to show me right from wrong
You have always been there for me,
you helped any weakness grow strong
~You have always been there for me~
even though many miles and oceans apart
You have always been there for me,
for you are every beat of my heart
~You have always been there for me~
from our very first time
I knew it was meant to be
I knew you would, and
~You have, always been there for me~

THEIR DESTINY
Their big brown eyes
so innocent and wide
look up to us
to help them decide

Their hearts are tortured
their souls in pain,
they have nothing to lose
but everything to gain

Their hunger grows
without food or love,
their only destiny
is the land above

We need to reach out
to give our all,
to keep them up
not allow them to fall

Think of them as your family
remember this is your land,
don't be afraid
to hold out your hand

THE GOOD OL' DAYS

I remember the good old days
petrol was not an issue,
driving we had plenty of room
as the family grew and grew

Even for the mother in laws
she was always invited along,
the kids enjoyed themselves
with the usual sing along

They were the good ol' days
back before roads were tarred,
no problem with the car tyres
when horses were not barred

Oh for the good ol' days
no round a bouts and no lights,
no breathalyzers or never
road raging fights.

The only thing I couldn't stand
was taking our mother in laws,
they always had an ailment
or their feet were always sore

So as you can see
we look after their needs complete,
they now have their own special place
with no pressure on their feet

THE NET

I have a home
it's on the net,
it's the very place
that we first met

we chatted with our fingers
our eyes were our ears,
we shared our emotions
unloaded all our fears

we became good friends
you and I,
we learnt how to laugh
we knew how to cry

so anytime your passing
and you want a chat with me,
I'm sure I'll be here
so drop in and see

TO A FRIEND

A smile may hide the sadness
the sadness may hide the smile
a light that's burning brightly
may be hidden for quite a while

Shining through the distance
unaltered by the grey
an unextinguished fire
that may never go away

A light has been created
with inner peace and much joy
it may often be veiled and shaded
but no mortal can destroy

TRUE FRIENDS

Where do our lives lead
Where do we go,
Who do we turn to
This we should know

You are feeling an emptiness
you are trying to hide,
all those dried tears
I know you have cried

I remember the time
I was in the deepest of pain,
the shoulder you gave me
the comfort I gained

I need you to know
when you're hurting inside,
I will always be here
be by your side

I don't expect a smile
when you feel like this,
I just want you to share
it's something I miss

you must always believe
and always be sure,
what true friends are made of
and what they are for

THE BATTLE
Do not make this battle your own
when you can get help from the Lord above,
He will always be there to comfort you
He will always give you His love
Don't ever feel you're fighting this war
with no one on your side,
The Lord is always with you
His love is your personal Guide
He will help take away those dreaded fears
by giving you strength to carry on,
with His protection you will learn to trust
so gradually all those fears will be gone
God will always be your loving leader
and in that alone you will feel secure,
he will help you with your feelings
so the bad ones will become fewer
Remember Heaven will always be your home
while you take your place here on the ground,
you will serve your country well
knowing that God will always be around

TAXI

I've got the keys mum
may I borrow the car,
of course you can son
but please don't go far

Where do you think your going
come right back here,
I need you to go to the store
I am right out of beer

Brother if you going out
may I get a lift,
My friend is having a birthday
I need to buy a gift

My other friend here with me
also needs a ride,
His car is down the road
the keys are locked inside

Dear this will be great
you can now take us,
Gramps has done his knee
so he can't get on the bus

Mum I'm returning the keys
I'll put them where you like,
I won't need them anymore
I've decided to take my bike

THE DREAMER

In loving memory of
John Lennon
09 Oct 1940 - 08 Dec 1980

Imagine if there was no heaven
or John not one of the Beatle four
imagine without his music
or his inner peace that he calls law

Too young to die at forty
another victim to be slain
on that dark day in December
where his Milk and Honey did remain

His passion was for his wife Yoko
he gave his wisdom to Julian and Sean
the family that was his love
in his music he was reborn

This man they called the dreamer
giving his life for all to see
Living only for today
with all tomorrows being free

THE KING

In loving memory of
Elvis Aaron Presley
08 Jan 1935  - 16 Aug 1977

We loved to listen to him sing
and watching him up on stage

We would sit and listen in awe
no matter what our age

He gave music a new name
it allowed us to feel free

Even our parents love him
this guy from Tennessee

Only his body has died
his soul will never be gone

His music will play forever
for 'The King' will always live on

TEDDY

To you I send
this Teddy Bear
it is sent with love
and sent with care

Tender him with kindness
he is especially for you
he carries all my love
and all my kisses too

TEARS FALL

The tears fall softly down my cheek
as I read between the lines,
the taste these words reflect
are like the finest of all wines

I know within my soul
that we will always be apart,
it's not your eyes you see with
but what is held within your heart

It can be the words that are spoken
the ones we will never hear,
but we will hold them close
for to us they are very dear

You have already touched me
although miles across the shore,
what we share together
will last forever more

© abritelite

TEARS I FEEL
In my voice I can feel the tears
of mixed emotions and many fears,

in your eyes I see a broken smile
knowing our parting will be quite awhile,

My heart cried out as I felt the pain
the memory within will always remain,

As remember your hands softness on my cheek
I knew the words but I could not speak,

Ours was not be to question why
We knew it was our last goodbye,

no one will take my memories away
they're in my heart where they will stay

THE LAND

Down of the farm
where cows give their milk,
sheep shed their wool
farmers grow their silk

Where horses pull the plough
the birds lay to nest,
to survive and make a living
gives little time for rest

Only the love of the land
would bring man here,
working every single day
of every single year

He devoted all his life
giving all that he knew,
from the planting of his love
to all the rewards that grew

TALK TO ME

I had an interesting discussion
just the other day,

No one was answering nor interested
in what I had to say,

So I decided to listen
I then opened up my eyes,

For the person I was talking to
was in a perfect disguise,

It was like looking into a mirror
the only person I could see,

Was the person I was talking to
Yes, that person of course, was me.
